Free Web 2.0 services you can use – GrandCentral.com
GrandCentral.com started as a typical stealth startup in the Bay Area – somewhere down the line they got bought by Google – a very low profile purchase for Google surprisingly. What GrandCentral provides you is something very basic – an ability to keep one permanent phone number – no matter where in the USA you move. The number literally follows you – you can set preferences for which of your numbers you can be reached at during various time slots of the day.
The service works great and is free for now – how Google plans to monetize it is a mystery at present. It may be a good idea to join now – while it’s till in Beta.
