Geek Choice Technicians Volunteer Classroom Time
Two Boston-area Geek Choice technicians have been volunteering their time with the Aquinnah Foundation, teaching computer skills to local high school students with various learning disabilities.
Boston, MA (PRWEB) January 1, 2009 — For the past three months, two Boston-area Geek Choice technicians have been volunteering their time with the Aquinnah Foundation, teaching computer skills to local high school students with various learning disabilities.
The technicians have been teaching the newly developed Advanced Computer Skills class at the Aquinnah Foundation after school program for high school students. The center offers two weekly afternoon classes tailored to teaching disabled high school students preparing for college and a career. A total of 24 local high school students participate in these classes, each of which is a semester in duration. Topics include typing speed, Excel, PowerPoint, PhotoShop and video editing.
The two classes are part of a pilot program and have received such an enthusiastic response that they will be renewed for next semester. To accommodate the large number of students and parents who have already expressed interest, the Aquinnah Foundation plans to double the number of classes to four.
Alexis Terra, Executive Director of the Aquinnah Foundation, praised Geek Choice for its generous contributions. “Not only do they provide certified technicians to mentor our students, they also donated ten lightly used computers from their office and helped us develop the Advanced Computer Skills curriculum. Geek Choice made this happen.”
