Salt Lake City, UT (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 16, 2009 — Burton Group’s Catalyst Conference North America 2009, spotlights industry trends that include two half day focused discussion groups covering the impending Oracle acquisition of Sun in San Diego, CA, July 27-31.

The April 20th announcement that Oracle is acquiring Sun Microsystems sent huge shockwaves through the IT marketplace. In particular, Sun customers are concerned about their investments and are eager to learn what the combined product roadmap has in store. Given this situation, Burton Group is hosting two Special Interest Group (SIG) sessions at Catalyst to provide a forum where Sun and Oracle customers can discuss merger issues.

The morning discussion will be lead by Richard Jones and Gene Ruth focused on data center management concerns clients have expressed regarding Oracle’s acquisition of Sun. Questions that will be addressed are: What does Oracle’s acquisition of Sun mean to your data center operations? Will Oracle’s relationships with major hardware vendors such as HP, IBM, and EMC be hampered? Should customers go forth with deployments based on Oracle/Sun products?

In the afternoon session, Burton Group analysts Anne Thomas Manes and Lori Rowland will present a consolidated perspective on issues that customers can discuss regarding identity and application middleware issues. Sun/Oracle customers must make decisions during the quiet period for the acquisition, but business can’t wait during this time. This event will provide attendees ample time to air additional topics of concern during this uncertain transition.

Burton Group VP and Research Director, Anne Thomas Manes said, “Sun’s impending acquisition by Oracle will have a major impact on enterprise planning for Sun and Oracle customers. This SIG will give attendees the opportunity to discuss their concerns with their peers, and Burton Group will compile the issues discussed for follow-up with Oracle.”
